Somehow, all the words I wrote to go with the picture I just posted disappeared! So the picture should be below this entry. I finally finished the stole. I absolutely love it. There are a few more pics on my blog, if anyone cares to see them.

Thank you for the music

I've got ABBA songs on my mind today.

I've finished the stole.

I won the first challenge of the Amazing Lace with it, so I'll take this opportunity to thank Eunny for her inspiration.

I wouldn't have bought a GOL, and I wouldn't have knit this stole if not for her and this knitalong. So, thanks Eunny, you gave me my fifteen minutes.

My pics are too big to post here, but head on over to my blog if you like and take a look. It turned out beautifully, and I even took it to the races!

Eunny I just can't fathom how fast you knit. I think about it and I just can't get my head around it. The only explanation I can muster is that you must be, in fact, part woman, part octopus. Am I right?

Did anyone besides Agnes ever finish this stole? I am hating it! I love the stole, it's gorgeous, I just don't like knitting it. Wondered how everyone else is faring.

I'm still here too

Gorgeous Agnes!

The Sampler Stole and I have entered the Amazing Lace, the first challenge was to introduce ourselves and I had a lot of fun with this, see my blog for what happens when good lace goes bad.
I am up to the second border, the first one flew past to be honest, and the reason the second hasn't done the same is from being ignored. As you can see It's sulking like you wouldn't believe.

Our Stitch n Bitch group is having an exhibition this weekend, and there were grand plans for this stole to be one of the exhibits. Actually, it is still going into the show, but still on the needles! And, to top it off, the experienced craft exhibit curator who was going to 'hang' the exhibition has just gone into labour! Which is why I have been distracted by knitting tiny things for a baby who just couldn't wait.

Complicated isn't it?

I will post some pics of it on display over the weekend, congratulations to the finishers so far, and keep those updates coming...

Jumping Ship

I'm so sorry to admit defeat - the Sampler Stole never reached the stage past constant counting, fudging, frogging, counting again, and I've finally decided to jump ship. Fortunately, I do have a lifeboat in the form of another KAL, one that at least several of you have participated in. So after frogging back to nothing, I cast on for Frosted Flowers and Leaves.
I loved being a part of this KAL, and have learned so much. First, about Eunny's generousity and expertise. Second, that everyone is willing to share their experience - from those switching yarns (Alisa and Eva?), those who taught me about lifelines (Laurel and Devri?), Melissa's help (and example!), Eva's spreadsheet, ...I could go on and on.
I'm going to keep checking in to see all the wonderful stoles as they get finished.
Thanks, everyone.

Problem!

I finished working on the second border on Monday and was feeling really happy ... the second border went very smoothly to my great great surprise. Naturally, the next step is to work on the edging. This is where I went into a problem. The instructions said "Beginning by joining the edging to the open sts of the 2nd border, work starting rows a-d ... " but how? I must admit this is my first time working on a lace stole/shawl with such edging ... so I am at a loss. Any help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

First border done!

The internet connection in my area has been behaving weirdly lately (perhaps because of the rain), so I can only post this when it comes back. I have finished knitting the first border! For the central panel, I did 6 repeats and though the length was enough. The knitting of the border is a lot more exciting than the central panel and I enjoyed it very much. Actually, I've started on the second border already. Hopefully, the stole can be finished within April!

Is anyone making progress?

I've set mine aside to make another shawl. I'll get back to it in a few weeks when I finish my other projects. But no one has posted for awhile, and I wondered if anyone else was still working on it. I'm afraid that once I finish one border, I'm going to totally lose interest in making the second one! Hope everyone is progressing nicely!!

Slow but steady

I just wanted to let everyone know that I'm still here and I'm working on the stole! I ended up with Jaggerspun Zephyr in a pink color that's lighter than what it looked like on the Internet. It's very pretty - somewhat like Eunny's, although I was TOTALLY not trying to do that! ;-) I'm using size 2 Inox circulars. I'm making slow but steady progress - only 1 repeat done. :-( I'm not that experienced of a lace knitter, so I'm having to use stitch markers to separate repeats, a Post-it to help me read the correct row, and the spreadsheet to make tickmarks on so that I know what rows I've done. When you've got a 6-year old demanding your attention, it's too easy to lose your place!

Anyway, just wanted to report my progress. I love the way it looks when it's stretched out. Maybe later on this week it'll get to a point that'll justify a picture.

Some border progress

One border is a little more than half done. I love the borders - as Melissa found before, each row is blessedly, wonderfully different from any other, but it's still easily memorizable. The center panel was starting to drive me a little bit batty, so I'm excited to be moving on. This is really fun - seeing how the different patterns work up to completely differend effects in each square.

Finally get some done

Hi all, I finally got 2 repeats of the central panel done:

I am using US2 needles and I like how it looks. I am working into the 3rd repeat already. When stretched, 2 repeats measures 10" long ... is that about right?

Help! Lost in yo-yo's

On the 32-stitch border, Rows 77 through 91: chart indicates we're to knit double yarn-overs on the RS rows. On the even numbered rows, it looks like we're supposed to knit into each yarn-over. Fine for the first one, but I feel like I'm knitting into air on that second yarn-over. I feel like I should knit into the back of the second, but the directions don't say that. Since this is my first Shetland, am I missing something that I should know about?
